In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in San Francisco; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–8 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. Um.... Maybe don't come hungry because the price of your bowl depends on it. I wasn't really trying to restrain myself and just got what would keep me content and my order costed about $30+ dollars for a weight of 1.75lbs. I selected the fresh fish broth and it was as white and creamy as expected although I still really enjoyed it. I know for a fact that I could have easily reached $50 if I wanted to be full full. I have never been to Tang Bar and decided to give it a try. I enjoy the concept of a build-your-own hotpot, but with my appetite, an AYCE hotpot restaurant is more worth it. You're also at the mall with a bunch of eateries and dessert spots! Save your stomach and get some matcha ice cream, acai bowl or boba if you have time and isn't full. You won't leave hungry.

Honestly didn’t expect much walking in. We had originally planned to go to the Vietnamese place nearby, but it was empty while Tang Bar had a line out the door. The choice made itself. And WOW! This is genuinely some of the best malatang I’ve had, better than places I’ve eaten at back in China. I got the savory mix (dry toss with Sichuan pepper oil), which was intensely numbing and incredibly fragrant. My mom got the regular malatang and felt the same way. People around us were packing up multiple portions to take home, some even finishing every last drop of the broth lol. The ingredient selection is wide and everything looks fresh. The setup is clean and well-maintained. The only downside is the wait, usually 15+ minutes, but the place is packed for a reason. I used to think the malatang spot near my school was the gold standard, and I was sad when it closed. Tang Bar is my new go-to now!

I love being able to choose what you want in your meal, the idea is brilliant! I love that there are different levels of spicy, I had a mild level and it was just perfect to what I expected, everything is fresh and delicious! Not to mention, how luxurious this place looks, the details are amazing! Definitely a must try πŸ’š

I went in yesterday, and ordered what’s in picture 1,2,3, for to go and received the food in picture four. I’m sure they gave me someone else’s food. Which is completely different from what I ordered. Which is inedible, and I had to make myself a ramen.

It was my first time having malatang and it was an awesome experience with wide variety of meats, seafood and veggies. All ingredients were fresh and broth was full of flavor. It didn’t feel like we were in a mall at all, they’ve done a great job with this place. Highly recommend it.
